Whooper Swan
"Whooper Swans, so-called because of their loud 'whoop-whoop'
call, occasioanlly show up around Ballymascanlon Bay and
the harbour. These birds are usually on passsage from
Iceland where they breed during the summer. Often seen
in family groups with a pair of adults and two to four
juveniles, they may be identified by their yellow and
black bill, with yellow predominating. A total of about
4,500 Whoopers overwinter in Ireland." |
