Redshank
Redshank can be seen pretty much all year round in the
harbour. Normally they will be busily digging in the mud
and sand for worms, insects and molluscs. They are easily
recognisable by their bright red legs, bobbing head and
vociferous habits - their meloncholy downslurred "teu-hu"
call can be heard in any wetland area in the country.
There are around 2000 redshank in the whole Dundalk Bay
area, with about 20 or 30 usually visible from the quay
wall on a rising tide.
