Grey Herons
"Grey Herons can be seen all year round at the harbour, especially at low tide, when they stand characteristically stock-still peering into the water, patiently waiting for the small fish on which they mainly feed. There are six to eight birds in the area of Ballymascanlon Bay and the harbour; nationally Ireland supports a population of about 700 birds. Sometimes you may see gulls mobbing a Grey Heron, trying to displace it from a good fishing spot."
