Rastachaun
2002 saw Rastachaun hold Dundalk’s first regular Drum and Bass night.  10 years on and the local crew are still going stronger than ever. On December the 14th Rastachaun will hold its 10th Anniversary Party in the newly refurbished Spirit Store.

15 years ago Skinny and Covert came together to hold “Funk the Planet” in the old Adelphi building in Dundalk, the venue at the time was known as “Rock the Planet”.  Playing a mixture of big beat, techno, house and drum and bass, the pair soon moved there focus solely to drum and bass.

Over the coming years Skinny and Covert teamed up with Rabhadh and Goza and held drum and bass nights in various venues around Dundalk. Mc Manus’s, The AOH and the Rugby club all played host to the crew before they obtained a regular spot in the Old Clanbrassil Hotel in the centre of town.  This is where Rastachaun was born.  The nights that kicked off the crew in the venue are the stuff of Legend.  Naptha, Don Rosco, Code, Kormac, Jet Li, Genie & Ali, Beckitt, Ernie, Elmo, Degree, Roller T make up a handful of the top Irish drum and bass DJs to play at the first Rastachaun nights.

The Rastachaun crew grew in size obtaining the skills of Stryke and Ren and MC:MC.  Skinny and Covert went on to play at all the major Drum and Bass festivals and club nights throughout the country, one of which included the legendary “Jungle Republic”

After the close of the Clanbrassil, Rastachaun were without a home and returned to playing various venues around Dundalk and even Carrickmacross, an unlikely spot for Drum and Bass.  After a few gigs in Dundalk’s Spirit Store the crews affiliation with the venue grew strong and eventually turned into Rastachaun having a monthly residency in the venue.  From here the crew has established the grass roots it worked hard for over the ten years.  Adding Dubstep to the playlist and having Irish drum and bass.coms Skels join the ranks the Rastachaun crew are one of the longest running drum and bass outfits in the country.

December the 14th sees Rastachaun celebrate its 10 years of bringing break beats and sub bass to Dundalk.  The crew are very proud to be playing the newly refurbished Spirit Store and hope to make the venue their home for 10 years to come.

Watch out for more details on the night coming soon.  It’s going to be very special.  See you there.
