Norabelle
Norabelle are an acoustic minimalist folk duo from Dundalk
consisting of Ken Clarke (Guitar & Vocals) and Shane
OHanrahan (Guitar, Vocals and Piano). They play
steady melodic folk music with delicate pick guitar and
harmonized vocals. They have recently recorded their debut
EP titled Come The Bluest Dawn which has been
received very well both in the UK (released through Static
Caravan Records) and in Ireland (released independently).
The EP features 4 songs: Still, Pins & Needles, Underpass
and Lemon. There influences include Sun Kil Moon, Bonnie
Prince Billy, Red House Painters, Lambchop, Smog, Bill
Callahan and many, many more.
Press Coverage of Come The Bluest Dawn
They sing beautiful harmony and have a preference for
dual twinkle attack on the old six string, which almost
always bodes well and Norabelle are no exception to
the rule. Fantastically steady, melodic folk music immaculately
recorded to make the best of the simple ingredients.
'Pins and Needles' being the best example of Norbelle's
simple majesty. (Norman Records)
One of those releases that we suggest you find a quiet
spot, fetch yourself a brew, maybe some handkerchiefs
(believe you me when I say you will be thankful for
them), pull up your pew nice and close, close your eyes
and let yourself drift away to the tingling timbres
unfolding within. Pretty hard trying to avoid getting
caught by this release, beautifully bruised and tenderly
crafted...... what makes this release so captivating
and indeed alluring is that its cast adrift with a ceaseless
and frailly fragile melancholic undercurrent that if
we didnt know any better would have to say itd
had been the work of a less intensely and emotionally
crippled Red House Painters - its the kind of
bitter sweet awe that makes you want to throw your arms
around it in sympathy or at the very least have you
numbed, biting your lip and humbled in its company.
(Losing Today Magasine)
The nicely titled Come The Bluest Dawn features
four soft, mellow and low key acoustic songs that, as
the title indicates, are best played very late at night.
Very much an acquired taste, theyre unlikely to
ever get played on daytime radio, but fans of the likes
of Adrian Crowley, Elliot Smith or Will Oldham will
find much to love here. (Hotpress)
