Keenan Copas

Keenan Copas is a 16 year old singer-songwriter from Dundalk. He has achieved quite a lot musically over the past year or two. For such a young age he has proven himself to be ahead of his years. His songs are a heartfelt and honest representation of his young life. His style is a mixture of folk, rock with elements as diverse as 60’s pop and 80’s disco. He has been compared to artists such as Paolo Nutini, Jack Johnson and Matt Corby. He gets inspiration from listening to these artists. Also The Beatles, Paul Simon and Neil Young are on the top of his list of favourite artists. He plays a number of instruments such as Guitar, Ukulele, Harmonica and Piano.
He has already played support gigs in the Spirit Store, 23 seats, the TLT theatre, The Town Hall and Fairways hotel. At the young age of 15 he started recording his debut EP titled ‘Go with the flow’. Local musician Gerry Larkin has taken him under his wing and produced his EP in his home studio. The EP contains 8 songs which were recorded over the past 6 months. Keenan also tours the local music venues with Gerry. This has given him fantastic experience and the opportunity to perform his own material. This has proven to be very successful and he has built up a large local fan base because of this. He has done extensive interviews on Dundalk FM and Louth Internet Radio and played live acoustic sets in their studios.
He has been song writing and playing music from a very young age. He wrote his first song when he was eight years old titled the ‘sandwich song’. His songs have grown a lot since these early days and they now range from heart felt love songs such as ‘Say it through a song’ to exciting Pop Rock songs such as ‘Go with the flow’. The instruments used on his debut EP range from 60’s Mellotron to 70’s Moog synth to 80/90’s rock guitar sounds. His music could be best described as a fusion of the best elements of the past 40 years. Ukulele and harmonica are also used to great effect to forge Keenan’s signature sound.
He is destined to have a bright future in music if his current performance is anything to go by. He is dedicated, extremely keen and has a great personality.
He launches his debut EP in the Spirit Store on 24th July 2012. Gig starts at 7pm and everyone is welcome.
