Karrie O'Sullivan
My name is Karrie (O’Sullivan) and  I’m starting my second career following a long time as a horse trainer in County Kerry. It seems I have a knack for picking industries that are very difficult to progress in, have long hours and are likely to cost more than I will ever earn. My influences are many but Rickki Lee Jones and Joni Mitchell feature to whom I’m flattered to be compared  with.
My  previous career was as a showjumper, specialising in breaking young horses. Based in County Kerry, The horse industry was expanding rapidly throughout the naughties, giving plenty of opportunity for me to practise my skills.
The downturn since 2007, led to an implosion in horse ownership and affordability and naturally the business shrank alongside this. This gave me the motivation to seek out my other passion, music. Having watched my nephew MICK FLANNERY achieve considerable success with his tunes, I decided to record my original music; some new songs and others I have carried around for years, relating to events in my life. Touring widely, supporting Mick, Mary Coughlan, DeDannan, Mick Hanly, John Spillane I think my career is growing and album sales are brisk at gigs.
The process of recording my first album Jellylegged involved me taking my lyrics and melodies to Chris Ahern (Stargazers) at Colaiste Stiofan Naofa in Cork, who put on guitar chords and we developed it with session musicians from there. Pat Ahern then produced the album and it was mastered in Los Angeles by Killarney man Ruairi O’ Flaherty. It was well received in Sept 2011 and is still widely featured on national radio with seven songs getting regular airings on John Creedon, Late Date and Risin Time.
I hope you enjoy keeping me company on my music journey and that my music will enhance your lives, just as many others' music has enhanced mine! Kar x
