Glenn
Tilbrook
GLENN TILBROOK, is best known for his work with
legendary British power-pop band Squeeze, with whom he
has been singing, playing and writing songs for many years.
He, alongside Squeeze co-writer, Chris Difford have penned
some of pop music's finest songs. Classics such as: "Take
Me I'm Yours", "Up The Junction", "Cool
For Cats", "Labelled with Love", "Another
Nail in My Heart", "Is That Love?" and
"Tempted" kicked off Squeeze's long-standing
residency in the British Top 10, which in turn, led to
Tilbrook/Difford being hailed as the best British songwriting
duo since Lennon and McCartney. It should therefore, come
as no surprise that many of today's young bands, ranging
from The View to Razorlight, Fountains of Wayne to The
Feeling and Kasabian have all cited Squeeze as a major
influence.
>From their formation in 1974 to their latest tour
in 2008, Squeeze have achieved spectacular success; a
string of hit singles, 13 critically acclaimed studio
albums, 4 "Best of", 3 "Live" albums,
plus numerous compilations. Squeeze quickly broke America
- where they carried out lengthy stadium tours and sold-out
New York's Madison Square Garden. Squeeze front-men, Glenn
Tilbrook & Chris Difford were also the very first
artists to play MTV's "Unplugged" sessions.
So successful was their unplugged show that MTV commissioned
an entire series of unplugged shows which featured many
legendary artists.
In early 2007, after an eight year absence, it was announced
that Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford would reform Squeeze
for a series of shows throughout the latter half of the
year, in support of Universal / Warner's release of a
new 'best of' album; 'Essential Squeeze'. The first actual
full-band Squeeze show since 1999 took place with a headline
appearance at GuilFest 2007, the band then went on to
play sold-out shows in the U.S. the UK and Ireland.
In May 2008, Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford were the
recipients of one of the music industry's highest honours,
the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution To
British Music, in recognition of the sheer quality and
consistency of their songs.
Outside of Squeeze, Glenn Tilbrook has worked with; Mark
Knopfler, Elvis Costello, Paul Young, Aimee Mann, Ron
Sexsmith and many more. Songs he has written have been
covered by a wide range of artists including; Sting, Joe
Cocker, Elaine Page, Rita Coolidge, Andrea Corr, Kevin
Rowland, Grandmaster Flash, Richard Thompson, Jane Birkin,
Lily Allen and Travis.
As well as fronting Squeeze, Glenn Tilbrook is also a
highly respected solo artist. 2001 saw the release of
Glenn's long awaited first solo release, 'The Incomplete
Glenn Tilbrook', which was received with great acclaim
worldwide. Following very successful and extensive world
tours in support of this release, Tilbrook went straight
back into the studio to complete a follow up album, the
result of these sessions; 'Transatlantic Ping Pong', recorded
in Nashville, Austin, and London (hence the title), was
released in May 2004 to rave reviews with critics hailing
it as: "Tilbrook's finest work in years". 2006
saw the release of a feature length documentary entitled;
Glenn Tilbrook: One For The Road about life as a touring
musician on the road in the US.
Glenn Tilbrook is currently completing work on his 3rd
solo album entitled: "Pandemonium Ensues". An
extensive UK/Irish tour will take place in October/November
2008.
In concert Glenn Tilbrook is one of the most creative
and spellbinding artists to take the stage - superb voice,
great songs, breathtaking guitar skills and, he has a
terrific personality too. Currently, Glenn Tilbrook tours
with Squeeze, as a solo acoustic artist and also with
his brilliant band, The Fluffers |
