Gentry Morris
American born singer/songwriter Gentry Morris follows
the success of his 2005 release, "The Bare Bones
and Bad Ideas EP" with his full length studio album
"Awake O Sleeper".
To celebrate the release of the album, Morris releases
the album for radio listeners and embarks on a string
of dates across the UK and Ireland throughout 2011.
The first single released Ireland has already been playlisted
by RTE1 and is receiving heavy rotation and rave reviews.
This album is Gentry's third studio album, the majority
of which was recorded in Ireland by local musicians.
This was an important factor for Morris as N. Ireland
has now become home to him and the people here have
been so receptive to his music.
This 28 year old songwriter hails from South Georgia
and for years toured the US with a group of friends
playing anywhere that would have them.
Morris' musical journey began after an eye injury left
him bedridden for several months at a young age. The
guitar that sat in the corner became the outlet for
his creativity and he began writing songs to pass the
time.
At the age of 20 Morris packed up the guitar and moved
to Nashville, Tennessee in search of a career in the
music industry.
Gentry spent 5 years sharpening and defining his unique
sound in the musical melting pot that is Nashville,
Tennessee - with the battle scars and the hits to move
on to bigger and better things he once again packed
up the guitar...this time heading for Ireland.
For the last three years Morris has lived in Northern
Ireland where he is spreading his music through solo
gigs and support slots.
He has shared the stage with Juliet Turner, Iain Archer,
The Coronas, Ben Glover, Anthony Toner, Eilidh Patterson,
Garreth Dunlop, Matt McGinn and numerous other local
and international musicians.
In 2009 Morris was named Artist in Residence for the
Cathedral Quarter Festival.
Morris has a gift for creating memorable songs with
an emotional range that can take the listener from a
sunny day in the park to a dreary Sunday evening drive
through the fog. He strives to create a unique and individual
sound and seldom does he write a hook that wont
stop you flat in your tracks.
An original voice that demands attention
- The Irish Times
Theres a quality to his voice that is eminently
listenable and when he lets go,
there is an amazing flow of raw emotion. - Indie Launchpad
Morris brings to mind a younger and livelier James Taylor
or John Denver
This is a beautifully put together
collection of songs and is definitely going to be in
my Top 10 repeated listens of this year. - Bruised Fruit

Morris has an old soul, writing with impressive craftsmanship
as he blends together old folk with todays adult-oriented
rock. - Murfreesboro Pulse
His work may indeed be a self-portrait or the most
incredible empathy, either way; beauty spills through
his lyric, his melody, his voice. Belfast A Muze
AWAKE O SLEEPER is an acoustic masterpiece. Stunningly
self produced and captures acoustic instrumentation
to the full, leaving you with glowing lush sounds, which
blends with Gentrys vocals and the guest vocalists
on the album. (including Juliet Turner). File
